WINNIPEG, MB - It was nothing short of spectacular as the Winnipeg Chargers finished their 4-game preseason with a perfect 4-0 record. As if that wasn't impressive enough, the Chargers also only allowed one touchdown, had one shutout and their smallest margin of victory was 68 points.
"I'd say I was proud of the boys but that would be a huge understatement. The team took it to the field hard every game and we walked away with what may look like easy victories but we earned those victories and I am feeling very good about the outlook for the rest of this season," Head Coach Ryan Betesta.
The Chargers picked up their 3rd victory in Chippawa with a devestating performance in which they only allowed 11 yards rushing and sacked the quarterback 5 times. The offense combined for 315.5 yards rushing, 191 by Joffrey Reynolds including 5 touchdowns, and 371.5 yards passing including 7 touchdowns. The Carnivores were no match for the Chargers.
Game Ball: Defensive End Chad Kelsay, 6 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 hurries
The Chargers finished their preseason in a game where they would give up their first touchdown but it didn't really matter cause they scored cause they scored 15 of their own including a fumble recovery for a touchdown by LB Robert Blatchford. Joffrey took to the ground again with 146 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns and HB Hickory Brandybuck was impressive again on the return game with another two punt return touchdowns. The real stars though were the defense who only allowed 22 yards rushing, forced 3 fumbles and 21 punts. The Chargers shut down the Militia with a dominating 114-7 victory.
Game Ball: Defensive Line - 22 yards rushing, 2 sacks, 6 hurries and a forced fumble.
The Chargers will kick off the regular season on the road against the Lansdowne Warriors who despite winning 3 of their 4 preseason games, did not look nearly as impressive as the Chargers.
